- It
all began around 1890 when ragmen and
ironmongers sold the objects they had hooked up in
tips and bins of the wealthiest areas of Paris.
- In
1891, all pedlars setting up their stands
on the pavements of Avenue Michelet in Saint-Ouen
were required to have a license allowing them to sell their
goods.
-
A few years later, the secondhand furniture dealers joined
them.
-
Little by little restaurant owners and craftsmen also settled
in, as well as bistrots that sold shots of liquor to warm
you up on cold winter mornings.
